Deniz Tunç Tasarım, 15. yılında muhteşem "Devim" Koleksiyonunu lanse etti..

Tasarımcı Deniz Tunç’un kendi stilini yaratıp onunla anılmak istediği tasarım yolculuğu 2000 yılında Nişantaşı Güzelbahçe Sokak’taki showroom’unda başladı. Çintemani deseninden yola çıkarak tasarladığı “Hilal” aplik ve “Sabır” paravan çok beğeni topladı. 2004’te lanse ettiği “Saltanat Yansımaları” koleksiyonu ”Neo Ottoman” stilinin Deniz Tunç adıyla anılmaya başlamasına neden oldu.

2005’te “Sadabad”, 2006’da alemlerle gökyüzünü, su damlacıklarıyla Boğaz’ın sularını andıran “İstanbul”, 2007’de yılın ışık tasarımcısı ödülünü kazandıran “Şehzade” tasarımları doğdu. 2009’da “Döngü” ve 2011’de “Asimetrik Simetri” koleksiyonları ile o güne kadar üstünde çalıştığı desenleri sadeleştirmeye başladı.

2010’da Abdi İpekçi Caddesindeki yeni yerine taşındı. Büyüyordu. Tasarımlarına gösterilen ilgi ülke sınırlarını aştı. Londra, Viyana, Dubai, Moskova, Cidde, Bahreyn, Kuveyt’ten müşterileri olan tasarımcı 2011’den beri Osmanlı ve Selçuklu motiflerinden uzaklaşmaya başladı. Daha yalın çizgiler, yeni dokular ve kendi yarattığı yeni motiflere yöneldi ..

Tasarladığı mekan, ışık ve mobilyalarda eskinin kokusunu alabilir, stilini oluşturan kültürel izleri farkedebilirsiniz; Deniz Tunç tasarımları, özgünlüğü ve bireyselliği öne çıkaran günümüz form ve dokularına sahip sanat objeleri olarak algılanmaktalar..

2013’te “Petek” , “Dalga” “Kaldera” serileri, 2014’te “Neo Dizilimler” ve 2015’te “Amorf” ve “Devim” koleksiyonlarını lanse etti. Son koleksiyonu “Devim”, tasarımcının 15 yıllık başarılı serüvenini çok iyi anlatıyor: Evrende doğan, gelişen ve sonlanan her şey devim halindedir; önce çoğalır, sonra sıçrayarak nitelik değiştirir.  

Antik Çağ düşünürlerine göre cisimler birbirlerini bilardo topları gibi çarpma yoluyla hareketlendirmektedir. İlk fiske vurulduktan sonra bu hareket sürüp gitmiştir. Filozof Anaxagoras ilk fiskeyi vurana“Nous”, filozof Aristoteles ise “Devinmeyen Devindirici” adını vermiştir.

“Devim”in yarattığı sürekli değişim ve gelişim, yeni oluşumların yolunu açarken DenizTunç’un son koleksiyonundaki çizgiler de bu sürekli hareket ve ilerlemeye vurgu yapıyor. Kelebeğin kanat çırpışını, gezegenlerin yörüngesini, titreşen molekülleri görebiliyorsunuz tasarımlarında…

“Kinesis”

As continuous movement “Kinesis” is the name of the last collection of DenizTunc and it is like a reference to her 15 year old design travel…

“Kinesis” indicates motion on the one side and growth and progress on the other side. Everything born, grown and ending in universe is in continuous “Kinesis”; it reproduces and then it changes its property by spattering.

For ancient age philosophers, matters quicken by beating each other like billiard balls. Beginning from the First Touch, this motion has been continuing. Philosophe Anaxagoras called the first touch as “Nous” and Philosophe Aristoteles called the same as “Unmoved Mover”.

As the continuous change and improvement created by the “Kinesis” opens the road to new formations, the lines of the last collection of DenizTunc emphasize this continuous motion and progress. One can see the flapping wings of butterfly, the orbits of planets, the vibrating molecules on her designs… 

Deniz Tunc is known with her lighting, furniture and interior designs. Interior and object designs with her signature decorate since 15 years the luxury office, residence, hotel, restaurant and clubs in various cities throughout the globe like Istanbul, Moscow, London, Dubai, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Algiers, Athens, Vienna, Kuwait, Jeddah…

She graduated from the Stage and Costume Design Department of Mimar Sinan University. She designed stage and costume for advertisement and movie films. She designed leather product collections for various brands. She then started to design interior and decoration goods – especially lighting.

She opened her first showroom in the fashion and design district of Istanbul called Nisantasi in 2000. Being inspired from the eastern mysticism and Ottoman grandness, her first collections name was “Neo-Ottoman”. Her Lights which she called Crescent, Chintemani, Sadabad, Istanbul became famous and took their places in elegant and unique interiors since then as Deniz Tunc classics.

Deniz Tunc realised her designs in metal and wood workshops she founded working with the skillful hands of master of domain craftsmen coming from traditional hand workmanship.

The orientalist taste of  Deniz Tunc signed designs went over the country borders and took their places in interiors like Dubai ZabeelSaray Hotel, UAE Ankara Embassy Residence, London Kazan Restaurant, Moscow Rixos Hotel Spa, Turkey Astana Embassy, Abu Dhabi Saadiyet Beach Ressort, Chicago Park Hyatt Hotel, Libya Tripoli Hotel, Dubai Beach Palace Hotel, Qatar Al Wajba Hotel etc.

Being inspired from her past, culture, eastern objects, structures and ornaments she created various designs and spread to the modern world, which are all art objects in the taste of statutes and took their places in unique interiors.

The designer delivers her story telling and soul giving “modern” works to the last user by using a wide range of architects as her solution partners. One of her most appreciated properties is her ability to create new forms attracting attention with their spontaneity and uniqueness.

In 2010, she moved to a larger showroom. In this 200sqm showroom on Abdi Ipekci Street of Nisantasi, she currently celebrates her 15th anniversary.

Without giving up her passion for metal, she also uses wood, glass, leather and fabrics. She points out that within years her search for new forms and textures brought her to more simplified designs. This attitude of Deniz Tunc is reflected on her 2015 collections of “Amorph” and “Kinesis”.

Reinhard Zich, think his artworks are like his children to develop and to ensure perfection for the sake of them..

I met an Austrian artist/actor Reinhard Zich, living in İstanbul; I visited his showroom in a nice historic house in Moda. "Between The Lines" was the name of his catalogue. I think his works exceeds the limits of the lines..

What do you think  about the contemporary art works  in Turkey and in theworld?

Turkey has a very young modern art scene which provides contemporary impulses to the art giving it vibrancy and soul. Worldwide there are so many different new experimentations in new art that it is a challenge to do something new. 


My inspiration source is based on a reflection of the experiences, challenges and opportunities and hence provides an authentic artistic synthesis. I choose Istanbul to live mostly, because it gives me a lot of new inspiration for my art work and new impulses, contexts, cultures and people.

Tell me about pls. your solo expo in your Studio.. What is the concept? What kind of materials and technics do you use to create your paintings?

The concept to have my own shoowroom very close to my atelier is that my clients can come and see how I work and they can see also my finished work and can also directly acquire my artwork.

There are different types and technics of gold gilding. I use normaly the high- polish gilding and the polish-poliment gilding, oil paints fusing the traditional methods with new materials, colorwise artist acrylics.

What is the "happiness" for you? Does the art do you happy?

Happiness is a big word. But I am happy when I am in the nature and when I can see the sun and the moon, the sea and the mountains and the animals which are living in the nature. I am happy when i receive love  and when I can give love.I am happy when I understand in a meditation that I am and all we are unique, I am happy when I hold a child in my armes, especially when it is crying and it needs consolation. I am happy when I feel free, when I can act and show what I feel, express myself openly.

Of course also my art works makes me very happy.. When I wake up in the morning my first thoughts are how I will continue today with my artwork. They are like my children that I want to develop and ensure perfection for the sake of them.

What is the "success" for you?

Succes is when finally I complete my art work how I envisaged it that it should look like and when people and my clients love my artworks. Then I am ready for the next challenge seek the opportunity to paint a new.

Why and when did you choose İstanbul to live in? And speciallly Moda?

Moda I chose as a base due to the active arts scene and its authenticity, its very liberal very close to the sea and many other artist are living here, so you may say an ideal basis for new emergening art.

How do you describe İstanbul with your five senses? As a smell, a view, a touch, a flavour and a sound?

I like the smell of the sea with a slight breeze wind that brings all different smells of Istanbul together. I like the view from Bostancı to the four princess Islands.

Istanbul is touching me because the people are so friendly and and they try to give their best when I need help. I enjoy to eat fresh fish in Istanbul. I always buy it at the fish market, prepare it so it stays authentic. There are so many sounds but one that stands out to me is ships signals are tooting and seagulls are screeching in the background, the fusion of nature and technology, freedom and structure. When the musicians on the ships play their instruments typical turkish songs.

It is not only a creation but a message to the world. Dedicated to all victims from the past over the presence to the future. 

You will be captivated and overwhelmed with emotions by the words which are written in the uneasy red triangle...

Reinhard Zich was born in Vienna in 1961. His early life was heavily influenced by his mother who instilled in the young Reinhard a sense of creativity, and passion for the arts. 

Upon compleation of his acting training he moved to Rome in 1985 where he preformed in both stage and screen. His movie appearances included also "La vita e bella" and "Karol", a Pope who remained a man. While living in Berlin in 2005 he began to paint. His unique technique involves a combination of acrylic and gold leaf. He has recieved many private commissions from Rome, Hamburg, Berlin, Vienna and Brussels.

He has played parts in the movies "Çanakkale Savaşı 1915" and "8 Saniye" under the direction of Ömer Faruk Sorak. He has opened his first showroom in the Kadıköy/Moda area of the city. The works in this exhibition are the first offering of an unique artist.

Dozens of Foreigners's headliner, Romanian theater actress Dorina Harangus: Artist is the person who has home sickness and cannot reach her place.

The play "Onlarca Yabancı" (Dozens of Foreigners), features the life of Sorina, a woman who encounters the social, political, religious and cultural barriers of Turkey - a country completely foreign to her.

Romanian theater actress Dorina Maria Harangus depicts the stories of women who have settled in Turkey from Germany, Romania, Holland, Colombia, Russia, Africa, England, America, Czech Republic and Argentina.

Prior to her performance, Harangus met with other foreign women, listened to their stories and had new experiences on her tour around Istanbul. The women posed for her camera and talked about their life. Set on one of Istanbul's streets, Sorina tells the stories of 10 women accompanied by cellist Damla Aydın and songs by Işıl Kandolu. 

Sorina explores whether her soul is adapted to each story as if she was trying on a dress each time.



The photos of the 10 women are shown to viewers in the background, enhancing the performance. Harangus used women's stories, news and information from her friends and Facebook in her performance.

Here is an interview to introduce you Dorina Maria Harangus..

Would you tell us about your education and artistic life?
I have a bachelor degree in theater, art of the actor. I studied in a university in Romania. For 10 years i performed in state theater in Romania and in the same time i was doing some other projects. In total i played in 35 performances and I directed 9. I wrote theater and poetry and tried lots of hand crafts. I am that kind of artist with one leg in each art.

What is about your last theater work in Istanbul? 
My last work in Istanbul "Onlarca Yabancı" (Dozens of Foreigners) is a play which i wrote, i directed and i play it. Near me i have a cello player, Damla Aydin and a singer , Isil Kandolu. Together we tell the real stories of 10 foreign women who lived or passed through Turkey, most of them through marvelous city of Istanbul to take some photos and get involve in other women's stories till she decides to tranform it into a project of photography. Imagine that we are on the street and there is a bilboard where the photographs Sorina took appears in the place of commercials.

Photographs were taken by two great foreign women professional photographers from Journey Collective, Julia Cookie and Martina Korkmaz. These photos have great impact in the stories.

Our next performance will be on 19 April at 19:00 at Nazım Hikmet Kültür Merkezi - Kadıköy.

What is your definition of art and artists ?
I will make a brain storming..
Art is another look to the world..
I think art is the best demonstration of Einstein theory of relativity because it shows that world is exactly how we perceive it, depending of the viewer.
Artists are all revolutionaries, they want to exchange the world the people see with the world they see.
Art is a way of self expression and the artist in the one who undress in public.
Artist is the person who has home sickness and cannot reach her place.
The art is the replacement of scream..
Artists are people who cannot stay in their skin.
Art is the other side of all things.
Artists are some nice crazy people who cannot live without their work.

You made me think about art and artists.. Thank you.

..and your feelings about the theater? Why do you do theater ? 
I do theater because i have some things to say, to share. I do theater because my body, my mind and my soul needs to get out and walk on unstepped paths. Because i am curious. Because sometimes i need to tranform my scream in something bearable. Because telling a flower is beautiful became an ordinary thing, people are passing by beauties every day without seeing them. I need to tell that the flower is beautiful and i have to find another way, the unstepped way which may take the others attention and make a flower to be beautiful. Is it a flower beautiful if we don't see it ? The flower is just an element i used as an example. It can be anything.

Since when do you live in Istanbul?

I have been leaving here for almost 9 years. I married with a turkish guy, that's how i came here.

Where are your favorite places in Istanbul?
My favorite place is in the ship. I love the sea and i love to move from one continent to another.

Can you describe Istanbul with your 5 senses?
Walking through this city you get into the noisy crowd, you let yourself packet into a sweet spicy smell mixed with the smell of the sea, you feel attracted by the smell of turkish coffee, you sit on a table and drink it while you have a friendly chat with the totally unknown person near your table. If it's a man you may find yourself in an misunderstood situation. After a while you are tired of colors and hungry and you may gain some kilos after you eat a big buttered “pide”. It is so good that you don't even feel guilty..

Do you have a dream project about Istanbul?
No, i don't. I am acting according to my inspiration. Little projects seems more suitable for me.

I don't want to wrestle with the giants

Musa Güney: "Everybody should be in relation to some sort of an art activity in a way. He should live and share the energy, the emotion and the enthusiasm that he has naturally."

I found him by tracking the textures that he created by paints. We met up with artist Musa Güney in his atelier in an old Pera apartment house. He hosted me within his colours.

Could you tell us about your expedition of progress in your work?

Expedition? Truthfully, when looking back, it was an expedition full of thrill and enthusiasm. We can conclude that it is the emancipation and neutralization of a soul as a result of a self struggle of an impressionistic personality lasting for years… Actually, I realized that it is the parts that create the whole and I fell into a vicious circle. Every part creates the entirety and could transform into another component at the same time. Every paint gives birth to another and it goes on.

How did you  begin painting textures?

This is somewhat related to sense of touch.. Attainment to beauty, to obtain it, is not only related to seeing it.. This circumstance is also related to be able to feel it, to smell, to taste it and to touch it. We can not just see a rose, look and walk through, we also smell it.. I wanted to touch it as well. As descending into detail and concentrate on elements, I felt the texture and touch it.

What are the triggering facts for you, your source of inspiration?

 It can be anything.. I wander in details.. even a meaningless element can trigger the condition. This can be a crack on the edge of the table when sitting and drinking tea around a table in a crowded place or the abraded texture of a wall that was painted over and over.

What is your perspective about the relation between art and happiness?

Making art is a long course full with moments of happiness and enthusiasm, it is about a free sprit determined to his aim. Art is not a business and the artist produce without a profit expectation. This fact gives the art maker an unforgettable weal and delight. I remember that I watch a work that I terminated for hours.

What is your definition for art and artist?

Art is a status and being artist is an attitude. There is no recipe for this. As far as I’m concerned we can call it as a life-style, a sensation, reflection of the inner senses on a plane or an object, even, sometimes getting changed your aspect for this. 

Would you tell us about your favorite artists and their work?

Actually there are really good artists in the past and in the present. I can’t name them. I didn’t hold up any artist as an example in any period of my life. I’m living my own spirituality, struggle and passion..

What is the role of art in human life and what should it be in your opinion?

In my opinion, every human should keep company with a branch of art. He should live the enthusiasm, the feeling and the energy that exists in his nature and should share it.

What would you say about contemporary art?

The disconnecting nature of the modern thought destroys the tradition and this influence the art as well. This is a normal continuum. Art and art work was always shaped within its own conditions and materials.. When compared to previous era, today’s conditions are for sure, exceedingly different.. We take the whole advantage of the modern digital age..  As long as it concerns the aesthetics and the art spirit, there is no problem.. 

What should be the role of education in art?

The essential is to enhance creativity, to improve the esthetic perception, to elevate generations that are able to associate the things differently and that can point out different aspects of one subject. 

Did you do art work with children?

Yes.. I collect children painting for a long time. There is a hidden world in each of them… Last year I had a nice 40 person group. We have passed a wonderful year. It is very pleasant and exciting to share art activity with uncontaminated brains apt to produce. They want, love and feel the paint. We moved away a bit from the usual classical children painting which has always bothered me.. I talked them about the shapes, sizes and interdifferences of the objects found in the nature. They comprehend it.. I did not step in their work then. I was amazed by the unbelievable beauty of their paintings at the end. We hold an exhibition fort his work in the gallery of my dear friends Erdi and Esra Gökağaç - Erva Art -  in Nişantaşı. The families, the children and the artists gathered in the exhibition.. I convey them my endless thanks for their support to the art without any return expectations. t was such a spectacular day. Perhaps these children will not grow up as artists, perhaps just a few of them will.. It makes no odds. There is something I know that they will allways love art..

Would you give us some information about your art work in the Balkan region?

This is one of the subjects that I dote on in the recent years.. We have an historical link to this area and we have lived together for centuries. This has excited me always.. I met a lot of precious artists at the international workshops. We had intimate friendships in time. We hold up a group exhibition with the contributions of Novipazar (Sancak) Fine Arts Faculty. Later on we had organized an exhibition in Skopje with 25 Turkish and 25 Macedonian artists. This exhibition turned into a long-running organization and was displayed in 10 different galleries all the year round. It still goes on.

We had also organized an exhibition called Expo Diaspora 2014 Bocholt sponsored by a museum and Bocholt Municipality in Germany with the contributions of artists from 20 European country, United States, Cuba, Syria, Japan and 5 artists from Turkey. That was a lovely opening. This exhibition will move to Kosovo this month. If we can provide support, the Project will be repeated in Turkey. Besides that we had exhibitions with artists from Kosovo and Macedonia in Turkey. They joined to TÜYAP Art Fair.. We have many projects for 2015 as well.

Making art and make a living with art is difficult in our country.. How did you cope with it?

The artists are exposed to difficulties and troubles evermore. Religious, political or economical oppressions can be in question. The art has overcome these difficulties successfully. I believe that our country will overcome the hassle as well. It is a long and hard way..  This is a struggle to survive which needs setting one’s heart and mind on. A beautiful and noble expedition that is dragged along feelings, excitement and passion and which lacks any return expectations…

How can we make art familiar with the society?

By meeting the artist with the community! We are accused in this case also. We become introverted.. We should approach and get in touch to the art-lover. I felt this for the first time in one of my exhibitions in a cultural center in Anatolia. I saw it in the eyes of an old  lady who has just arrived from a public bazaar with her hands full of sacks and stared in front of an abstract painting for minutes ..

What did you see in the eyes of the old lady?

She approached to the painting, she touched it and said ‘’ This is very beautiful my son’’. Who knows? Perhaps it was a remembering from an abrased painting of her village house gate or an abrased detail from the over and over painted garden wall. What is important was that she touched and felt the painting and she wanted to communicate with the painting.. This states the connection between an art object and the spectator..

I attach importance to Anatolian people. Their handwoven quilts, kilims, patchworks… The compositions, abstractions, disintegration and the colour balances in their work.. Products of a neat and unpolluted aesthetic perception. Sense of beauty, aesthetic perception exists in all human. It is the expression of methods and the materials that differ.

What does Istanbul mean to you?

This is somewhat related to the social class you live in.. I have communication with almost all social groups.. A lengthy subject.. Good and bad, beautiful and ugly in short.

I’m asking about your Istanbul..

I’ve seen many countries.. cities, towns.. places which impress me a lot with their natural beauty. However İstanbul has a particular atmosphere. It is a multicultural extraordinary city with its great historical background and particular geography. Sometimes I walked through Çemberlitaş, Sultanahmet, Ayasofya, Topkapı, Gülhane, Eminönü,.. to Karaköy and Beşiktaş.. Even, recently I made my Balcanian friends walk along this course for hours. They got tired a lot, but the happy expression in their faces was reflecting the beautiful face of İstanbul already..

Speaking of living in İstanbul.. this is another thing. There are still many people living on the Anatolian side of tis city and not yet see the European side. For some people İstanbul doesn’t mean more than working hopelessly and taking a bread to home at the end of the day. This is an economical and social problem.. However we are loosing this space helplessly: the capital of many civilizations, a city that has such an high energy and beauty. We are not even able to react this under the domination of the capital.

It does no longer make a sense the smell of the grilled fish or the boats on water in Karaköy because of this meaningless bridge builded right there. We are loosing the sillhouette of the city. This is a very pathetic condition.  Afterall, with its good and bad sides, beauty and ugliness, it is my İstanbul and I love it.

Do you have a dream project for İstanbul?

I have many projects. I will carry out when conditions are suitable. There are many derelict buildings or factories in İstanbul. I want these properties to assigned to art makers and make live these spaces with art.

This can be an important step to make meet the people with art. Imagine.. somebody who is unfamiliar with art meets an artist painting or sculpting in the garden of the abandoned building that he was passing by everyday. Maybe he will stay unreactive at the beginning but he will be charmed by the attraction of art in time and this experience will allow him to become acquainted by art.

I actually  realize this on the street where I’m living. Sometimes I perform my painting in the open air. The people are coming along, watching, asking questions. Probably, at least they might be thinking that: ‘’ Look, he is one of us.. he is an artist and is sharing the same space with us..’’

The community is not accustomed to artists yet, they can see us as strange people with marginal thought belonging to another world… this project can make them more familiar with art makers.

Müzik nasıl girdi hayatına?
Müzik her zaman hayatımda vardı. Daha annemin karnındayken hem Türk hem Batı müzikleri dinletilmis bana... Babamın, babaannemin ve amcamın da çok güzel sesleri vardır. Biz ne zaman biraraya gelsek hep bir Türk Sanat Müziği faslı olur evimizde. Bu nedenle müzik adeta damarlarıma işlemiş. Hatta müziksiz bir gün geçirdiğimi hatırlamıyorum.. 

Hangi tür parçalar seçiyorsun söylemek için? Genellikle indie pop tarzında... Blues, jazz, Türk Sanat Müziği ve pop söylemekten de çok zevk alıyorum. 

Sadece şarkı söylemiyorsun bildiğim kadarıyla.. Beste yapıyor musun? 
Ben Avustralyalı kompozitör ve müzisyen Will Larsen ile çalısıyorum. Kendisi Aria odülü kazanmış başarılı bir müzisyen. Aria ödülü, Amerika'nın Grammy ödülü ile eşdeğerde bir Avustralya müzik ödülüdür. 2009 sonunda tanıştık Will ile... O zamandan beri beraber calışıyoruz. Will müziği yazıyor ve kayıtlarımızdaki bütün enstrümanları çalıyor, ben ise söz yazıyorum ve söylüyorum. Şarkılarımız indie pop tarzındadır. Aylin Eser hem benim, hem de grubumuzun ismidir.

Şarkı sözlerin de var... Neler anlatıyor genelde?
Şarkı sözlerim hayattaki deneyimlerim ve felsefelerim ile ilgilidir. Konu aşk da olsa, hayat da olsa mutlaka kendi yaşamımdan oluyor. Söz yazıp o sözleri şarkı olarak ifade edebilmek beni çok mutlu ediyor. Yazdığım sözlere, şarkı söylerken hissettiğim duyguları katabilmek beni özgür ve mutlu hissettiriyor..

Menejerin var mı? Nasıl bir işbirliğiniz var?
Resmi bir menejerim yok şu an. Ama Will o işleri de üstlendi şimdilik. Çok rahat ve keyifli bir isbirliöimiz var. Bizi ve hedeflerimizi anlayan iyi bir menejer bulana kadar böyle devam ettirmeyi düşünüyoruz.

Yeni bir albüm çalışman olacak mı?
Evet. 2014 ortası gibi Itunes'de bir albüm çıkartmayı düşünüyoruz. Şu an 4 şarkılık EP'imizi bulabilirsiniz Itunes'de. Albüm çalışmalari iyi gidiyor. Will ile yazdığımız şarkılar 30'u buldu. Şarkımız var. Onlar üzerinde son çalışmaları yapıp albüm için seçim yapmamız gerekiyor. Bu seçim süreci en zor süreç olacak. Birbirine en uyumlu şarkıları bulup albüme koymak istiyoruz. Her şarkının bir anısı veya bizde uyandırdığı özel bir duygusu oldugu icin secim sureci zor olabilir.

Kliplerin çok tıklanmış.. Ufukta bir konser görünüyor mu?
Evet.. 2014 de konserler ve sene sonuna doğru bir tur düşünüyoruz. Konserlere ilk etapta Melbourne'de başlayıp oradan Amerika'ya ve Avrupa'ya açılmak hedefimiz.

İstanbul'da tanıştık seninle.. Şimdi gidiryorsun... Nerede yaşamaya karar verdin?
Ben Melbourne, Avustralya'da doğup büyüdüm. Hayatımın çoğunu orada geçirdim. 2010'da bir Istanbul macerası yaşama isteği doğdu içimde ve Haziran'da İstanbul'a taşındım. İstanbul'u tanıdım ve çok ama çok sevdim. Melbourne'a geri taşınma kararım bu sevginin azaldığına işaret değil. Sadece şu anki hayatımın akışı bunu gerektiriyor. Daha faydalı olacak.

Melbourne-İstanbul kıyaslaması yapabilir misin?
Melbourne ve İstanbul bence siyah ve beyaz kadar zıt şehirler. Melbourne'de büyük şehir olmasına rağmen, daha sakin ve düzenli bir yaşam var. İstanbul ise hareket ve kaos dolu.  Melbourne İstanbul'a göre çok genc bir şehir. Avustralya'nın 1770'lerde keşfedildiği söyleniyor İngilizler tarafindan..  İstanbul ise çok daha eski bir tarihe sahip. Bu kesinlikle hissediliyor İstanbul'un sokaklarında gezinirken..

İstanbul'a bakmak ve gerçekten bütün farkındalığınla görmek dünyanın en güzel bakışından biridir bence. İstanbul'u duymak en güzel Orhan Veli'nin "İstanbul'u Dinliyorum" şiirinde anlatılmış. İstanbul'u duymak bu şiir gibi..

Sahilde balık ekmek veya Boğaz manzarasıyla midye dolması yemektir herhalde. İstanbul'u tatmak onu her haliyle, her mevsimiyle doyasıya yaşamaktır. Fırından geçerken taze ekmek kokusudur İstanbul'u koklamak. İstanbul'u hissetmek baharda Moda Burnu'nda oturup rüzgarın tenini okşadığını hissetmektir.

İstanbul için bir hayal projen var mı?

Benim bir çok hayal projem var. İstanbul'da konserler verip kendi müziğimi tanıtmak, gelecekte bir Türk Sanat Müziği konseri vermek hayallerimin arasında.. 

Mutluluk ve sanat ilişkisi hakkında neler söyleyebilirsin?

Sanat mutluluktur zaten. İlişkileri yok. Çünkü ikisi aynı şey. İnsan yaratıcılığını kullandığı zaman zaten mutludur diye düşünüyorum. Hüzün dolu olsa bile, onu yaratıcılığıyla sanata dökmek o hüznün içerisinde mutluluktur. 

An Australian musician passed through Istanbul... You must have a listen to the voice of Aylin Eser..

Those of you who visited last year's Lokomotif street festival will remember Aylin Eser. She held a stunning concert. The beautiful Australian musician and I became friends in Istanbul. Will it continue in Melbourne? I hope so. Listening to her gives a person a sense of joy for living. Before reading the interview about the beautiful singer with the gorgeous voice click on her photo and have a listen yourself.. 

How did music enter your life? Music has always been a part of my life. Even while I was still in her tummy my mother had me listening to both Turkish and Western music. Also, my grandmother, father and uncle have beautiful voices. Whenever the family gets together we always include a singing session comprising of classical Turkish songs. These are some of the reasons why music has penetrated deep within my veins. I don't ever remember spending a whole day without music.

What type of songs do you choose to sing? 
The songs i choose to sing are generally in the style of indie pop. However i also enjoy singing songs from genres such as blues, jazz, Turkish classical and pop.

From my understanding you don't just sing.. Do you write songs also?
I work together with Australian composer and musician Will Larsen. He is a successful, Aria award winning musician. The Aria is the Australian equivalent of an American Grammy award. Will and I met at the end of 2009 and we have been working together ever since. Will writes the songs and plays all the instruments on the recordings whereas I write the lyrics and sing. Our songs are of the indie pop genre. Aylin Eser is my name as well as the name of our band.

What is the main theme of your lyrics? What do they express? 
My lyrics are generally about my own life experiences and philosophies. Whether they be about love or life, there is always a contribution from my own life somewhere in the lyrics. To be able to write lyrics and then be able to express them through singing makes me very happy. It makes me feel free and pleased to be able to add the emotions I am feeling to the lyrics I write as I sing.

Are you planning to work on an album?
Yes. In mid 2014 we plan on releasing an album on iTunes. We currently have a 4 song EP available on iTunes. Our album work is going well. We currently have 30 songs that Will and I have written together. Once we tie up the loose ends with those we need to choose which songs we want on the album. This will probably be the most difficult part of the process because we want to choose the most compatible songs for the album. Each song has a memory or a special emotion that it awakens therefore choosing could be a difficult process.

Do you have a manager? What kind of work relationship do you have?
I don't have a formal manager at the moment so for the time being Will has taken over in that department. We have a very comfortable and pleasant working relationship. Until we find a good manager that understands us and our goals we plan to continue working in this manner.

You have a high number of hits on your songs.. Are there any upcoming concerts?
Yes we plan on holding some gigs next year as well as a tour towards the end of 2014. We are planning on playing some gigs in Melbourne and then aim to move on to The States and Europe.

We met with you in Istanbul.. Now you are leaving.. Where are you planning to live?
I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. I have spent most of my life there. In 2010 a voice inside me pushed me towards having an Istanbul adventure so in June of that year i moved to Istanbul. I got to know Istanbul and fell in love with it. My decision to move back to Australia is not a sign that this love i feel for Istanbul has lessened. It appears however that this decision would be more beneficial for the current flow of my life.

How would you compare Melbourne to Istanbul?
Melbourne and Istanbul are as opposite to one another as black is to white. Even though Melbourne is a big city also it is more quiet and organised. Istanbul on the other hand is full of action and chaos. Melbourne is a very young city compared to Istanbul. Australia was formally discovered by the English in 1770. Istanbul has a much older history and you can definitely feel this as you roam through its streets.

What would you say if i asked you to describe Istanbul with your 5 senses?
Sight: To see Istanbul and really glance at it with full awareness is in my opinion one of the most beautiful glances you could give to this world.
Hearing: I think that listening to Istanbul has been best described by Turkish poet Orhan Veli in his poem 'I am listening to Istanbul'. I think to hear Istanbul is exactly what is described in this poem.
Taste: To eat a fish bread roll or stuffed mussels with a view of the Bosphorus is to taste Istanbul in my opinion. Also to live Istanbul fully, in any state and every season, is to taste Istanbul.
Smell: The smell of fresh bread as you pass by the bakery is to smell Istanbul.
Touch: To feel Istanbul is to sit at the Moda peak in Spring or Autumn and feel the wind caress your skin.

Do you have any dream projects regarding Istanbul?
I have lots of dream projects. Holding concerts, introducing my music, as well as holding a classical Turkish music concert are all among my future dreams regarding Istanbul.

What would you say about the relationship between the arts and happiness?
The arts are happiness. They don't have a relationship because they are the one and the same. I believe that when a person uses their creativity they are already happy. Even if they are full of sadness as they use their creativity to express through art, i believe that in that moment they create happiness within their sadness.
